Cooking out with the Blond Duck

I love burgers.

I love burgers dripping with barbecue sauce, slathered with mayo, topped with crisp bacon and plenty of cheese.

And it’s even better when you can cook it at home.

Is this not the most beautiful sight in the world?
And Ben wants you to know he made them square like Wendy’s burgers. There is a method to his madness.
The best part about grilling burgers is that it’s so simple.

Just shape the patties, sprinkle on some seasoning, salt and pepper….

And grill those babies up.

And don’t forget the homemade potato salad.

Or the apple pie.

Ben’s burgers
1 1/2 to 2 lbs. ground beef, extra lean or round (if extra lean, you may want to slip a small bit of butter in the center of the raw patty to keep it from drying out)
Salt
Pepper
Lawry’s seasoning
Form patties and separate with parchment paper. Grill until it reaches preferred state (med.rare, medium, etc.)
Debbie’s (The Blond Duck’s Mom) Potato Salad
3 hard boiled eggs
1/2 cup mayo
1/2 cup miracle whip
1/2 cup relish
6 medium potatoes–peeled, cubed, boiled and drained.
3 tblspn yellow mustard
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp onion powder
Paprika (sprinkle on top)
Mix mayo, miracle whip, relish, salt, mustard, onion powder together. Add potatoes and eggs. Blend well. Sprinkle paprika on top. Refrigerate several hours before serving.
Stay tuned, Invisible Friends! Tomorrow we have a new Twirl and coming soon, the return of the Rubber Chicken! Don’t forget–for your convenience, there’s a new RSS feed and a feedburner option on the bottom of the site and Pond button on the sidebar. Stay tuned!

I can feel the warmth from here. It is such a gloomy chilly rainy day here in New York. Burgers sure to inspire me to THINK SPRING!!!
Ben did the square burgers
Mom did the potato salad
Miranda eats it all up!!!
March 26th, 2009 at 5:39 am
Ok, what day did you say you wanted me to come over for Ben’s burgers? I’ll bring the mayo and BBQ sauce because there’s no way you’ll have enough. LOL!!! We’ll eat burgers, cinnamon rolls, apple pie and ribs and Ben can just roll us in the corner until the next feeding time.
March 26th, 2009 at 5:42 am
I think I could actually eat that for breakfast! Props to you, sister for the apple pie mention!!!
(Cat is loving your Pie Shop story!)
March 26th, 2009 at 5:52 am
I knew the pie would be in the burger recipe somewhere! How could it not? Ben sure looks pleased with himself and his burgers. Just wait till you learn to make him whole wheat burger rolls. He will be in heaven!
March 26th, 2009 at 6:06 am
Duckie, that’s a meal made in heaven. Let me just say there’s nothing sexier than a man that cooks! Oh, I popped a little sussie into the mail yesterday and it’s winging it’s way across the big pond to your little pond! I hope you like it! XXOO
March 26th, 2009 at 6:34 am
I have always wondered how Wendy’s could get away with making burgers look that unappetizing – but apparently it’s for Ben! You learn something new every day.
March 26th, 2009 at 6:47 am
YUM. I’d skip the mayo myself, but otherwise – delicious. And like Marie said, a man that cooks? The best!
March 26th, 2009 at 7:01 am

March 26th, 2009 at 11:01 am
Looks so freakin’ scrumdidiliocious! And, also quite jealous that you live somewhere that is warm, and sunny, and awesome. Can’t wait for BBQ season cuz hubby refuses to fire it up in the cold.
March 26th, 2009 at 11:04 am
Oh man — you really want me to eat a cheeseburger, don’t you??
Is that the snickerdoodle apple pie I spy?

March 26th, 2009 at 6:27 pm
Now THAT looks like the ultimate burger!
March 26th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Yum, yum, yum! How ’bout you and Ben come over to our place? Kyle and Ben can grill the burgers, you can make the potato salad, and I’ll bake the pies! It’ll be the best!
March 27th, 2009 at 3:44 am
Oh Holy Cow!!! That looks amazing!! I’m sitting here pondering what I should make for breakfast and now I think I might as well chew on some cardboard because nothing will taste as good as that pie looks. I suddenly have a craving for cooked out burgers and potato salad. Wonder if hubby will mind standing outside in the blizzard to do that for me? Hmmm…I think I’d better not ask!
March 27th, 2009 at 7:18 am
Just got a BBQ so I’ll be making this funness!
We didn’t actually “make” the crayon… we “remade” all the broken ones in to another shape
March 27th, 2009 at 11:21 am
It’s a good job I’ve just had dinner!

We don’t have any pie though. I’m sad about that.
