Sweet Supper

Ya’ll know how much I like waffles. I love waffles.

They’re the perfect food. Light, fluffy, tasty. Perfect with syrup, delightful with butter and fabulous plain.

You can eat them for breakfast, you can eat them for dinner. You can have them for lunch or even dessert. You can freeze them for later or eat them in one big gorge fest.
Not that I would know anything about that.
But you know what makes these waffles even more perfect?
They’re my Grandma June’s recipe.
And that just makes them even tastier.
Especially for dinner.

Grandma June’s Buttermilk Waffles
2 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 cup buttermilk
3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 cup water
2 eggs
6 tsp. melted butter
1) Sift dry ingredients together.
2) Add milk and water, slowly mixing.
3) Separate yolks and whites. Slightly beat yolks and beat egg whites until stiff.
4) Add eggs and butter to mixture. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
5) Spoon onto waffle iron and bake until lightly browned.

March 4th, 2009 at 7:27 am
I want you to know that I’ve been really good about not complaining that it’s been like more than a WEEK since you gave us a new edition of Twirl. I’m pretty certain some where there’s probably like a law or rule about that. But I’m being good, patient, and not complaining or thinking that you hate me or anything, though you have been torturing me, fortunately I was soothed with the newest Gift.
Yay, only two more days!

I never separate the eggs for my waffles. Way too much like work for me. So they’re a little less light. So what? I’ve never tried buttermilk in them either, but maybe I will. You can find strawberry waffles, banana waffles and plain waffles on my blog, and they never last any time in my house.

We trained the kids to make waffles, so now they make them just about every Sunday! I want to put whipped cream all over my waffles, but dh won’t let me.
I’d have the kids attempt your Grandma’s recipe, but I don’t know if they can handle separating eggs yet. :}
