Once every two weeks, the Pond features a fabulously creative woman.  Today, our featured blogger is Brooke, from  Conversations with Cupcakes.

Brooke’s blog is full of dazzling treats and adorable pictures.  Honestly, how can you not like a woman who makes peeps pies, peanut butter cream cupcakes and of course, cupcakes.

I promise you: skip over to her blog, and you’ll have a happier day.  It’s like all the goodness of sweet treats without the calories.  Absolutely delightful.

Let’s learn more about her, shall we?

Tell us about yourself.

Hi there and hello! I’m Brooke, aka ConversationsWithACupcake. Stay-at-home mom to four angel-babies, sometimes substitute teacher, freelance writer, food blogger, oldest of six sisters, and wife to talented lover-boy, John .

Why did you start blogging?  How did you stumble into the blog world?

I was jay-walking across the street one afternoon. About the mid-yellow-line, I thought up the idea for Conversations With A Cupcake. BAM! It was like being hit by a car, only…with an idea. I worried early on that I’d tire of blogging, but every time I push that “New Post” button, it’s like putting on a party for a roomful of friend. So, I haven’t stopped yet. (But, I HAVE stopped jay-walking. Promise.)

Aren’t Chihuahuas the best dogs ever?

Indeed.  It’s like having a dog, a cat, and a rat all wrapped up into four-pounds of shivering fur.

Do you really have 25 lbs. of brown sugar?

Yeah.  ‘Tis the only way to
have it.

Can I have some?

Absolutely!  What might you do with it?

blondeduck4
Make pie with it, of course.  Speaking of pie, what’s your favorite dessert?

Oh, good gravy. How can one possibly choose?

What’s your favorite pie?

Razzleberry pie.  Could there BE a better flavor (or name) ?!

What was your favorite thing to do as a kid?

Write and direct plays for the neighborhood kids.  I think back now to the many {saintly} folk who paid a barrel of money to sit on lawn chairs in our driveway and watch us ragamuffins tromp through my scripts.  I hope many, many, many good things come to them for their kindness.

Have you always been interested in cooking?  Was there a specific event or person who peaked your interest?

Yes!  I’ve always loved cooking but it was sometime last summer when it dawned on me.  If I just wrote down everything I’d been concocting, then I’d actually be creating my own recipes.  It seems like such a simple thought, but it was really an epiphany.

Why cupcakes?  Why not pie or blondies or cake?

Oh! Blondies and cake, too.  And brownies, and tarts, doughnuts, bon-bons, taffy, and treacle…

If you weren’t doing whatever you do, what would you be doing?  What’s your dream profession/ ambition/ accomplishment?

Being a good mom is the only accomplishment that matters to me.
Everything else is just buttercream icing on the {cup}cake.

Who inspires you?

My Grandpa, Buster Brown.  Because he epitomized unconditional love.  He just absolutely loved everyone.  It was the most remarkable thing.  His life affects my life every day.

How do you make those pictures of the talking cupcakes and cookies?

I just put the talk bubbles on and let them do the chatting. Desserts say the darnedest things, don’t they?!

What’s your favorite thing about blogging?

When a reader emails and says, “I made this recipe and it was fabulous.” It’s such an honor to think that something I created is gracing the tastebuds of others in far distant lands. It makes the world feel small and friendly, and I adore that.

Do you do other creative things, like knitting, drawing, dancing, etc?

I try to keep the wiggles in, but they just come screaming out.  I’ve been a children’s performer, dance studio owner, newspaper writer, event planner, short-film director, book illustrator, cooking contest winner.  I love trying on new activities to see how they fit, and typically find that it’s all nice and good.  But what I want most is to dote on my kids and give them my everything.  They seem to like that, too.  And so, now I am an after-school treat maker, kindergarten volunteer, sideline cheerleader and bedtime reader.  I wouldn’t have it any other way.

If you could go anywhere in the world with anyone, where would you go and who would you go with?

My family and I would move–most immediately–to a summer home in Prince Edward Island, then laze away the rest of the year in Newport Beach, California. {Sigh}.

What’s your favorite movie?

The ones that I watch while wrapped in the arms of my husband.

Favorite song to dance to?

Anything by The Killers.  I am a dancer.

Do you believe in fairy tales?  Why or why not?

I believe in believing.  It’s so much better that not believing.

What do you hope to accomplish in the future?

I hope the near future sees my blog being written from a summer home in Prince Edward Island.  Oh, posh! I’m such a hopeless dreamer.

What’s your favorite utensil in the kitchen?

My stainless steel 1/2c. measuring cup. The shape is such a delight to hold and behold. Full of sugar? Even better.

I am gonna have to try that recipe, do you know that i have tried dieting here lately, but everytime i browse a new blog, there is something posted that i have never tried and i end up making it.
