“Well?” Biscuit demanded, her eyes wide with hunger as she dipped her paw casually into the coconut pie.  Licking a large scoop of coconut cream and meringue off her fur, her tail twitched with curiosity.  “What’s your brilliant idea?  What are you going to do?”

“I can’t tell you,” Meg announced, her eyes glittering with wild excitement.

“What?” Biscuit bellowed, her fur prickling on end.  “What do you mean?  You can’t boast about a brilliant plan and not reveal it!  That’s cruel.”  She scooped another glop of the pie onto her paw, her green eyes blazing.  “That’s beyond rude.”

“I can’t tell you because I don’t know what I’m going to do,” Meg explained.

“You just said you did.”  Biscuit took an indignant lick, cream trembling on her whiskers.  “You said you knew exactly what you wanted to do.”

“I do,” Meg replied.  “I just don’t know how I’m going to do it.  I’m going to need time.  And help.”  Her gaze darted toward the hopeful cookbooks, whose pages were twitching with excitement.  A frantic scribbling across the chalkboard made her laugh.

Please tell me that we’re going to make a pie no one has ever seen.  I was born for fame and fortune, you know.   I was made for greatness.

“We are,” Meg reassured the chalkboard and cookbooks, a grin on her face.  “We’re going to do something amazing.  But first, we have to  make a proper peanut butter ice cream pie for the princesses.”   Bowls filled with peanut butter and ice cream immediately flowed from the hutch, swirling around the room.

I wonder what type of pie we should make for Penelope… the chalkboard mused.

Meg laughed as the cookbooks’ suggestions for a pie filled the air: a drizzle of honey by the oven, a cup of berries hovering around the lamp on the counter, blocks of caramel that looked like a dentist’s nightmare.  Draping an apron over her dress, Meg tied back her hair and began pulling cookbooks off the shelf.   “Let’s get started, shall we?”

“You handle the pies,” Biscuit informed her, her green eyes focused on the coconut cream pie that was half devoured.  “I’ll focus on clean up.”  Purring with bliss, she dove face first into the remaining coconut cream pie.

For the rest of the afternoon and night, Meg worked on pies.  The kitchen was filled with singing and laughter backed to the rustle of cookbook pages.  Ingredients hummed around the kitchen, appearing at her slightest whim.  The chalkboard had gone hoarse with suggestions, scribbling with only the tiniest nub of chalk left.  Biscuit, whose pie laden belly was a sight of it’s own, slept for eight solid hours.  She didn’t even bother to wash the cream off her face or paws.  Though Meg would have never told her, she looked like a kitty Santa Claus with her beard of meringue and mittens of cream.

When the sun rose, the bell over the door announced new customers looking for breakfast and lunch pies.  Meg assisted them all cheerfully as the cookbooks in the back worked overtime.  Biscuit curled up in the shop window as the shop buzzed with activity and happy diners.  The bell rang again.  Meg looked up to see the three young girls in the doorway.  Once again, they were dressed as princesses.

“We’re here!” the first princess announced.

“Just like we promised,” the second princess said.

“Where’s the peanut butter ice cream pie?” the third one asked, pulling a fork out of her puffy, sequin-covered sleeve.

“And don’t worry if it doesn’t taste like the one the Shabby Princess makes,” the second princess said kindly.

“It’s almost an impossible feat,” the first princess admitted.

Her eyes twinkling, Meg pulled out the pie and set it on the table.  She handed the girls some forks and stepped to the side.  “I’ll go get you some milk and glasses,” she said, trying not to smile.  It was all she could do not to squeal in anticipation.  Hurrying to the back, she pulled out the jar of milk from the fridge.  When she heard the princess shriek in delight, she leaped into the air and clapped her hands.  Ignoring the milk sloshing all over her arms, she rushed into the dining room.

“Do you like it?” she asked breathlessly.  “Is it really the same pie?”

“It’s perfect!” the first princess cried.

“Exquisite,” the second princess confirmed.

“We may need another one,” the third princess warned, helping herself to a second piece.

Meg clapped her hands in glee.  “I’m so glad you liked it,” she said, heaving a sigh of relief.  “I also made you a candy bar pie.   I thought you could taste test it for me.”  She pulled it out of the refrigerated pie case and placed it on the table.  The princesses’ eyes went wide with greed.  Licking their lips, they each cut themselves a thick slice of pie.

“This is unbelievable,” the first princess sighed, closing her eyes in bliss.

“This might be better than the peanut butter ice cream pie,” the second princess whispered, hoping the others didn’t notice her blasphemous confession.

“We might need another one of these too,” the third princess confirmed, helping herself to a second slice of the candy bar pie.

“Well, this is a change!”

Meg whirled around.  Penelope stood in the doorway, her green eyes twinkling.  Her brown hair was pinned up on both sides of her head in ribbon looped pigtails exploding with curls.  Her rich red dress was covered with a colorful polka dot apron and her red heels shimmered with her every step.

“Thanks for watching the store for me,” Penelope continued, as causal as she had just popped down to the corner store instead of being gone for days.  “It seems like you’ve learned about pies since I’ve been gone.”

The first princess reached out and grabbed Penelope’s apron strings.  “Ma’am, you must hire her,” she begged.  “She makes the best pies.”

“The first one tasted like sawdust, but the peanut butter ice cream pie tastes just like I remember,” the second princess confirmed.  “And the candy bar pie….oh my.  It’s really good.”

“It’s beyond good,” the third princess argued, helping herself to a fourth piece.  “It’s phenomenal.  It’s unbelievable.  It’s amazing.  It’s stupendous.  It’s delicious.  Drool-worthy.  Tasty…”

“Ok, ok,” Penelope interrupted, her peals of laughter filling the store.  Her green eyes danced as she focused them on Meg.  “Did you manage to whip up a pie for me?”

Meg nodded.  Her stomach twisted in knots and her hands were coated in sweat.  “It’s right back here,” she said.  Biting her lip, she lead Penelope into the kitchen.

To be continued….

Ooh, candy bar pie with a pretzel crust, so decadent!
You asked what kind of fairy I would like to have living in my garden… I would like a peony fairy, with a big, pale pink blossom for a hat and a a dress made of hydrangea leaves and cream coloured lace. Pointed shoes, a brown pixie cut and rosebud lips. She could dance around and swim in my pond and make friends with the bunnies that come out at night. I would leave her mini cupcakes and berries on the deck in the evenings.

  54. The Sugar Fairy Says:

What type of pie for breakfast?

Well, i’m all for the humble apple pie, but I got thinking that really, pie that has any fruit in it has got to be good for you and therefore will be an excellent choice for breakfast. And also, because there will be lashings of ice-cream/cream/custard, the fruit will cancel that all out…but then again, that Candy Bar Pie looks incredibly delicious so maybe whatever the stomach can handle in the morning!

Creating your stories into sugarpaste or vice versa would be loads of fun, hmmm, I wouldn’t mind being a millionaire either! hehe

She purred as he pulled out, rolling onto her side as he moved aside. Like him, Hyle was naked save for the robe that had seen better days. A little while ago. Nialdlyes red legs crisscrossed over his back. She felt the soothing fingers of a sleep spell seep into her mind. Dont worry about it now. Im eager to see this spell. Thats what youre happy about? Fake sunlight poured through the open balcony doors from the garden beyond. But no, shed been wrong. Tykir had a warmer heart than that. She didnt want to know what Nialdlye had to say. Her lips parted under the soft caress of his breath, but he didnt kiss her. No more prompting was necessary. He brushed his lips over hers, then Lanthans before settling back again to watch. Laughing, he grabbed her hips and rolled over. The sapling, was it your idea? I cant say that I regret my choice, even given this consequence. She was so close A lifetime isnt enough to tell you how I feel about you.
