Ode to Ribs (and how the Babies Love Thee)
Ode to Ribs (and how we, the Babies, love thee)
As written by me,

Queen Bitty

Ode to barbecue beef ribs,
And how we love thee.
It might even be true,
you’re our favorite kind of meat.
It started out as a normal day,
commanding, controlling, ordering,
sleeping, chewing, barking,
you know, all the usual things in all the usual ways.

But ho! To our large eyes should appear,
Two beef ribs,
dangling from Ben’s hand.
I bet you can guess how excited we were–especially Bear.

Oh ribs, how can I describe thee?
It was like the tastiest morsel,
The chewiest gristle,
the softest bone between your teeth.

As Bear wuffled happily,
Dragging his rib all around the kitchen,
Chewing and slurping to his heart’s delight,
I couldn’t help but to agree.

For you see,
This was no ordinary rib.
It was an extradorinary rib,
The juicest, most tender, tastiest rib that had ever existed,
at least to me.

And I am the Queen.

The thing with ribs, you see,
Is it’s not your ordinary beef.
It’s like a bone and brisket all in one,
wrapped in a bit of barbecue glee.

So we chewed and we chewed,
Nibbled and gnashed,
Smacked and slurped,
Ripped and tore,
And chewed and chewed some more.

With crazy eyes,
Bear wuffled along.
“You know Bitty,” he mumbled, spewing bits everywhere as he chewed,
“I think this is the world’s greatest bone.”

Nibbling daintily,
As I licked the remaining sauce off my bone,
Chewing what was left of the meat,
I was happy to agree.

And how can I be wrong? I am the Queen.

Ode to ribs,
and how we, the Babies, love thee.
For one bite,
One lick,
One wuffle,
One slurp,
And we had the greatest Sunday.

It was worthy of a Queen.
Sincerely,
Queen Bitty

I adore spiled animals…
Looking forward to your mac and cheese recipe!

Lucky babies!
Would it be bad if my family wasn’t half as well fed as your dogs?! Don’t answer.
I can’t wait for the mac recipe. I make three different types myself, but because I love all things cheese I am always ready to expand my repertoire!

The animals at the Pond live a very comfortable life. Ribs? Maybe I need to make a reservation so I don’t miss the next meal.
As for the available languages, I didn’t see Texan on the list. We Southerners have a language all our own.

LOL at my desk! Too cute, with her little crown!

Very amusing post!! And what about a tasty Milanese cutlet?
June 16th, 2009 at 11:00 am
Thor can even break a giant beef or lamb bone, so he never gets bones. He’s glad his friends can enjoy them.
June 16th, 2009 at 12:15 pm
And who gets to mop up the floor after they are done dragging those things around? With the ribs in mouth there is no need for them to lick up the extra sauce.

Hi! Your dogs are absolutely adorable!! My hubby and I are in the market to get a pup now that we have the summer off, and this article made me want one even more!
LOVE your website/blog!

You are so funny. I think my Heidi would agree with little Queeny… we had ribs yesterday and she was in heaven.
Thanks for your input on my blog. Would you please come back again and vote on the poll on the top of my sidebar. I doubt if it will do any good but I think US Airways is being stingy with me and at least I can find out if others agree.
Thanks and have a great day.

I think I might have to wrestle one of those bones away from the Queen. Yeah, like I would stand a chance against the Queen of the Pond.
I thought of your doggies the other day when I read a story in the news about some Chihuahuas that cornered a cougar in someone’s garage, and held the intimidated cougar at bay until animal control arrived. The cops didn’t believe the 911 call at first. Mighty things do come in small packages!
