The Pond Critter’s Summer Faves

As it begins to cool and leaves begin to turn up North, while the Pond stays at 100+ degree days (last count, it was more than 50 in the past three months); the lovely Queen Bee Swain tagged me to talk about my summer favorites.

Well, not me.
The lovely Queen Bee Swain suggested that instead of me rambling on about what I liked about summer, the Critters of the Pond should list their favorite things of summer.

And they were absolutely thrilled.
So without further ado, the summer favorites of the Critters of the Pond:
Queen Bitty

As the Queen of the Pond, my favorite thing about summer is chasing ice cubes across the kitchen floor.

In an incredibly dignified way of course.
Bear

BARBECUE! RIBS! I LOVE RIBS! AND BRISKET! AND BURGERS! Wuffle of all wuffles!
The ducks:

Our favorite part of summer is being tomato farriers.

We get free bread for doing it and it’s great exercise.

Sandie the Stingray (Land of the Flowered Bed):
Of course, I love going to the beach….sunbathing, swimming, scurrying under the sand.

And I particularly adore bacon sliders….they’re like the bacon cheeseburgers you get all year round, but smaller and cuter. So if you eat, say, five or six, it doesn’t count. Because they’re cute.
I have a thing for bacon cheeseburgers.

Pumble (Land of the Flowered Bed):
Ice cream, of course! Loads and loads of ice cream! Honey ice cream, butter pecan, peanut butter, nectar, nectarine…it’s just an endless parade of delicious combinations. Honey cakes and ice cream, scones and ice cream, cookies and ice cream, pie and ice cream…
Excuse me. I’ve got to find some ice cream.

Miss Moose McKinley (Land of the Flowered Bed):
As a young moose in Alaska, my favorite part of summer was seeing grass. There’s nothing like romping through a forest where you can see the trees and feel the grass on your hooves. I don’t even mind the vast clouds of mosquitoes.

Booger the Lobster:
My favorite thing is the pecan pie. And no, I was not stealing the pie. I was simply sampling a small smackeral, to ensure it was cooked correctly.
I am the pie guardian lobster, after all.

Much to Queen Bitty’s dismay.

Petunia the Pig:
Mudholes. Have you ever rolled in a good mudhole? I mean really rolled? Like when you get so much dirt caked in your ears everyone sounds like the teacher on Charlie Brown? That’s a good summer mudhole.

The Pink Penguins:
Penguin Coladas. Have you ever had them? A bit fishy, but really sweet. We’re an expert at whipping them up, if you’d like some.

Ms. Chick:
Pie. In the summer, I love pie. Especially corn pie. I love all pie. Coconut Cream, apple, blueberry, peach cherry….
Does anyone have some pie they could share?

Taco the Chihuahua:
I like chasing cats. You see, in the summer, cats in the Pond get lazy and drape themselves over fences or lie out in driveways to warm themselves in the sun. If you’re real quiet and sneak up….then bark like crazy and rush toward them, they screech and leap into a tree.
It’s the best thing in the world. Try it sometime.

The Love Pig:
I know it’s silly, but my favorite part of summer is actually a childhood dream.

You see when I was young, there was a show that starred a swimming pig. Everyone would applaud as he swam and dove and leaped through hoops over the pool.
And I wanted to be him.
So every summer, when the air first gets warm and the nights get long….
I spend hours in the pool, swimming and pretending an audience is applauding everything I do.
Even though I spend most of my time trying not to get my wings wet or sink to the bottom.
But for a moment, a brief moment–I am a star.

Ms. Frizzle:
Corn on the cob slathered with butter. Even though it gets stuck in my beak and widens my feathery hips. That’s all right. I’ll blame it on my nesting instinct.

The Glitter Chicks:
Well, there’s a lot of things about summer. But we’d have to say our favorite is playing tag in the dark with fireflies. When you’re running to catch your friend…those fireflies are a welcome little snack.
Stay tuned, Invisible Friends! Tomorrow we have a new Coconut Queen and Thursday, a tasty new recipe that might actually be good for you! Stay tuned!

It’s hard to believe that it’s September already! Where has the year gone? Looking back over the long Summer days was great, but the best is yet to come…that is being cosy in front of the fire, while I happily chat away to all my “invisible friends” and just day-dream, along with the ever present ice-cream, of course!

I love a good summer pie, as well. I know people think pie and relate to fall. But the summer ones are much more tasty!

Saying goodbye to summer is a bummer, but you’ve made it WAY cuter to endure!!

I saw mums for sale the other day and Walmart had out their cute little scarecrows! Summer is almost gone! It was barely 70 here yesterday! I need more warm days…the kids have a few new summery back to school clothes! They must get worn! LOL!
Lilly-Grace is doing great. She left me a small surprise on Manga Dork’s rug last night and I decided the best way to pick it up was between my toes! EWWWW! LOL! She hasn’t had a lot of accidents though…thank goodness!

Our summers have been so different! We never hit 90 here this year, and we only had 3 weeks in the 80 degree range this summer. Yesterday’s high was 61 degrees, and today it’s 51. I hope for a warmer weekend *sigh* Hope all of the pond critters enjoy the last official week of summer!

I truly love the story about the swimming pig. It completely delighted me. I used to want a pig as a pet – a potbellied one. I did tons of research about them, but my mom would never allow it. Such a party pooper!

And now I’m hungry and way distracted. But before I run out looking for one, I wanted to let you know that I really I enjoyed reading about summer through the eyes of the many fantastic creatures who reside in Duckie’s World!

Loved this Duckie. I have been so bad at getting my reading done this week. It seems to be becoming a problem with me. (I think it’s that extra 45 minutes I need to take each morning to do my therapy)
I really miss my daily visits. Your creatures and their favourite things are so sweet, as are you. I miss you so much! xxoo
September 12th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
Adorable! I think my favorite of the Critter’s activities is The Love Pig and his (??) desire to swim. So cute!!
