Spiderweb cupcakes

Hello, Friends. I’m Pumble the Bee, from the Land of the Flowered Bed.

You’ve probably read all about me in the newly illustrated children’s book by the Blond Duck.
And I’m here today, to present my masterpiece of the Halloween party we had Saturday in the Pond.

Now, I know many of you think I would have had a spider simply spin some black sugar webs, but when it comes to bugs, I don’t let them in my kitchen.

Ahem.

Since I had a lot of cupcakes to make for the hungry Pond creatures, I had to start early.

It’s quite simple, really.

First, I mixed up some chocolate cupcakes.

It’s a magical recipe, otherwise, I’d share.

Next, I slathered them with thick white icing. I love icing.

Then, I took some black icing and made a swirl on the top of each cupcake. I took a toothpick and started in the center, flicking out five little lines. That’s how I created these whimsical little spiderwebs.

Without the use of a single spider.
Spider free is the way to be–when in doubt, ask a bumblebee!

I think that’s going to be my new motto in life.

Now if you excuse me, I have some cookies to eat and some Halloween candy to devour…
Stay tuned, Invisible Friends! Tomorrow we have a new Dallas Jean and Saturday, a new critter confessions from Pumble’s girlfriend, Ladybug! Stay tuned!

I have been known to become a screaming, quivering idiot in the presence of spiders. I have also been known to screech while frantically stomping small spiders multiple times. So, spiders are not allowed in my corner of the world, either. But since you found a way to make these spider free, they look great!
November 5th, 2009 at 11:34 am

i hate spiders and real spider webs–is there anything more annoying than walking through one and getting it stuck on your face? however, this is a brilliant idea and i wish i had come across it before halloween! nice work.
