Christmas Cookies

Hello. Cookies and Crumbs here.

We, as the cookie-loving owls of the Pond, have decided to share the special Pond Christmas cookie recipe with you.
Our special recipe.

Well, technically it’s not our recipe. Because we didn’t make the cookies. Pumble did.

But we ate most of the cookies, so we think we’re an expert. Cookie owl experts.

The Cookie Stealing Bunny will eat anything, so he doesn’t count.

What is so delightful about these Christmas cookies is how tasty and simple they are. Just sugar dough and sprinkles. Lots of sprinkles. Colorful sprinkles. If you don’t shove them too close together like Pumble did, they make really pretty shapes.

Don’t judge me.

These tasty cookies (misshapen as they are) are perfect for large crowds of creatures and critters great and small. It makes four to five dozen, and if you don’t shove them all together like Pumble did, you can make pretty sugar stars or Christmas shapes. If you’re really talented, you could even display them on the tree (they got eaten at the Pond before they hit the plate, much less got hung on a tree.)
Plus, there’s no icing to create sticky paws, feathered wings or hooves and they’re quite easy to gobble in handfuls.

Not that Crumbs would ever know anything about that.

Try some yourself, won’t you?
Sugar Cookies
From Paula Deen’s Holiday Baking
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 cup confectioner’s sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
colored sugar sprinkles
In a large bowl, beat butter at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy, gradually add sugars, beating well. Add eggs and vanilla, mixing well.
In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Gradually add to butter mixture, mixing well. Cover and chill for one hour.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Divide dough in half. Chill one portion until ready to use. On a lightly floured surface, roll remaining dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Using a 2 1/2 inch star shaped cookie cutter, cut dough and place on prepared baking sheets. Repeat with remaining dough. Decorate with colored sugar. Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are lightly browned. Let cool for two minutes. Remove from pans and cool completely on wire wracks.
Stay tuned, Invisible Friends! Tomorrow, we have a new Dallas Jean Lee and Saturday, a new Christmas ornament confession! Stay tuned!!

I hate it when you use a cookie cutter and the dough spreads in the oven so that you cant even make out the original shape any more. Glad im not the only ones that happens to. Anyway, they are still fab and sparkly
, bet they are delish–especially if its paula dean cause we all know she’s not afraid of a calorie LOL.

I adore Paula & sugar cookies. Almost as a good as seeing the little creatures holding them
December 17th, 2009 at 11:42 am
It would be a disaster to have frosting stuck on everyones feathers! No frosting in the pond!
You can’t miss with anything Paula Dean does. (Although I wish she wouldn’t cook with those enormous diamonds dripping all over. She’s going to lose one in a pie or something.)
