Christmas Cookies

Invisible Friends, I’d like to introduce Cookies the Owl from the Land of the Flowered Bed.

Many of you think he’s cantankerous, arrogant and rude from reading my book.
And that may have been true.
Before Cookies got a friend.

Meet Crumbs. He accompanied us home after my booksigning at the Twig.

Now, Cookies has many friends. He lives in the Land of the Flowered Bed after all. But Crumbs is a special friend.

He’s a Christmas cookie loving owl friend.
You see, Cookies would never admit it, but he loves Christmas cookies.

He adores Christmas cookies.
He is a Christmas cookie fiend.
From Thanksgiving to New Year’s, Cookies inhales as many cookies as he can get his hands on.

Snickerdoodles…

Wedding cookies…

Oatmeal cookies…

Gingerbread…

Cookies and Crumbs love them all.

You wouldn’t know it, but Crumbs can eat a lot of cookies.

The cookie-stealing bunny is majorly jealous.
But the funniest part of this whole cookie loving friendship…
The reason I’m revealing this secret to you (without their knowlege…)
Is what happens at night, while they think the world is asleep.
If you sneak in the kitchen…
Late at night, hidden in the shadows…
You’ll hear Christmas music cheerfully playing.
And you’ll see bright lights and smell sugar and icing and cinnamon.
And there in the kitchen, in a whirlwind of cookies and messy bowls and mounds and mounds of crumbs and fallen sprinkles…

Dance these two little owls, shoving cookies in their mouths as fast as their wings can fly and singing this George Strait song at the top of their lungs…
“I sure do like those Christmas cookies, sugar
I sure do like those Christmas cookies, babe
The ones that look like Santa Claus
Christmas trees, bells, and stars
I sure do like those Christmas cookies, babe
Now Christmas cookies are a special treat
The more she bakes the more I eat
And sometimes I can’t get myself to stop
Sometimes she’ll wait till I’m asleep
She’ll take the ones I didn’t eat
And put those little sprinkly things on top
Now those sprinkly things just makes things worse
Cause it makes them taste better than they did at first
And they’re absolutely impossible to resist
Some disappear to who knows where
But I make sure I get my share
And those kids just stand there waiting for the ones I miss
Sure do like those Christmas cookies, sugar
Sure do like those Christmas cookies, babe
She gets mad that they’re all gone
Before she gets the icing put on
Sure do like those Christmas cookies babe
Now there’s a benefit to all of this
That you might have overlooked or missed
So now let me tell you the best part of it all
Every time she sticks another batch in the oven
There’s 15 minutes for some kissin’ and’a huggin’
That’s why I eat Christmas cookies all year long!”
Let me tell you, it’s really hard not to giggle when you spy on this late and night.
Hoot and Who did giggle at first…
Until they joined the party.
So if you ever have a hankering to see dancing owls singing country Christmas carols and snarfing cookies late at night while a jealous cookie-stealing bunny looks on…

That’s just Christmas in the Pond.
Stay tuned, Invisible Friends! Tomorrow we have the final Isadora, a tasty recipe Thursday and a new Dallas Jean Friday! Stay tuned!

Awww, this post is so cute. I really enjoyed reading the little story. The owl is adorable, esp the baby one. It looks just like this penguin I have. And the holiday cookies look so good to eat.
And thank you for your wonderful comment. I really appreciate it. I’m happy to be done my internship and to be moving home again soon.

I love that Christmas song; it’s one of my all-time favorites.
I love Christmas cookies, too. I’m just not very good at making them. I’m much better at Christmas fudge, and caramels, and other things that are so good I don’t even know where to begin describing them. But the cookies … I just don’t do well. Wish I did. They are sure yummy and fun! And your little owls are just too too cute!

Cookies and Crumb are too cute.
December 1st, 2009 at 3:50 pm
Your little critters are certainly in a festive mood. I will be when those cookies are passed my way! The Mexican Wedding cookies are my favorite. When my sons were toddlers they renamed them *Snowball cookies*. Because every time we would make them together they’d get covered (from head to toe) in powdered sugar. They’d say…”look mom it’s snowing on me”. They’d have a winters blast making those cookies.
Sweet holiday wishes,
Sara
