Peanut Butter Chocolate Kisses

You all know how much I love peanut butter.

And the only thing better than peanut butter is peanut butter cookies.

Peanut butter cookies with peanut butter chips…oatmeal cookies with chips….

Peanut butter chip cookies… (It’s hard to tell, but there’s a few of my PB cookies sprinkled amidst Ben’s chocolate chip ones)
And now, Invisible Friends, we have….

Peanut butter cookies with chocolate kisses.
You see, while I’m allergic to chocolate, I realize most people love it.

Particurlary Ben.

These cookies almost didn’t get made when he discovered the bag of Hershey Kisses I’d hidden. I had to hide the kisses for these cookies.

The best thing about these cookies, apart from the fact they won rave reviews from my co-workers and Ben…

Is that I got a better peanut butter cookie recipe than the one I’ve been using for years.
It wasn’t handed down from someone’s grandma…
It wasn’t in a old church or junior league cookbook…
And it wasn’t from a quaint local bakery.

It was on the back of the Jif jar of peanut butter.
And it’s amazing.

While I still adore my orginal recipe….
the new Jif recipe has created a affectionate spot in my heart right next to it.

One can never have too many peanut butter cookies.

Trust me.
Peanut Butter Chocolate Kiss Cookies
or Delicious PB cookies (Recipe from Jif)
3/4 cup Jif creamy PB
1/2 cup Crisco all-vegetable shortening
1 1/4 cups brown sugar
3 tblspns milk
1 tblspn vanilla
1 egg
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1) Heat oven to 375 degrees. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
2) Combine Jif peanut butter, shortening, light brown sugar, milk and vanilla in large bowl. Beat at medium speed with an electric mixer until well beaten. Add egg. Beat until blended.
3) Add flour, salt and baking soda. Add to creamed mixture at low speed. Mix until just blended. Drop by heaping teaspoons 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet (I used parchment paper.) Flatten in criss-cross pattern with fork.
3) Bake at 375 degrees for 7-8 minutes, or until set and beginning to brown. Press Hershey Kiss in center of each cookie, quickly. Cool 2 minutes on baking sheet. Remove cookies from foil to cool completely.

4) Beware of the cookie-stealing bunny.

And Christmas-cookie loving owls.
Stay tuned, Invisible Friends! Tomorrow we have a new Dallas Jean and Saturday, the rest of our 12 Christmas artists of the Pond! Stay tuned!

How did you know I was craving peanut butter and chocolate?! In the UK we can’t get (1) peanut butter cups (2) hershey kisses (3) many brands of peanut butter! Grrrr! Do you think it would work with chocolate buttons and skippy peanut butter? I’m going to have a go! Visiting from SITS

December 3rd, 2009 at 7:30 am
I’ve told people that once I hit forty, I’m going to lock myself in the house with a huge vat of peanut butter and large quantities of chocolate bars, and eat myself into oblivion. I’m telling the truth here. Though I still have a long way to go; thus, until then, these will be satisfactory!
December 3rd, 2009 at 7:48 am
those look too yummy! The only thing better than chocolate is chocolate with peanut butter. I feel so bad that you are allergic to chocolate, that I’m going to eat some right now to make up for what you can’t eat. Cause I’m a good invisible friend like that.

They sound delicious. I know some people are weird or embarassed about the back of the jar recipes, but they’re often the best ones! My signature chocolate chip cookie recipe that everyone always raves about can be found on Nestle’s chocolate morsels package.
December 3rd, 2009 at 9:06 am
From one peanut butter lover to another, how could these not taste divine? Yummy!
