Ode to It’s a Wonderful Life and How I Love Thee

Ode to It’s a Wonderful Life and How I Love Thee
Ode to “It’s A Wonderful Life”,
And how I love thee,
for to me,
you are the perfect Christmas movie.

It is for that reason,
I suppose,
that I watch “It’s a Wonderful Life,”
Every New Year’s Eve and Day.
For while Christmas is filled with merriment and joy,
New Year’s Day can be rather…well, dreary.
On New Year’s Day, the parties are over,
the feasts are long done,
The relatives and friends pack up to leave,
And the daily grind of work and school grow too close to have any real fun.
But when you pop in “It’s a Wonderful Life,”
all that melts away.
You smile at Clarence,
giggle at James’ Stewart roping the moon,
And feel his pain as his dreams seem farther and farther away,
While his responsibilities and obligations only grow and grow,
and Potter bears down more and more.
During this time especially,
“It’s a Wonderful Life” is more important than ever.
Your heart swells with hope,
You dare to dream,
And suddenly the New Year isn’t as scary as it seems.

So forget black beans or resolutions,
Grand brunches and adulation,
this New Year’s Day I’ll watch “It’s a Wonderful Life,”
And once again be filled with the cheer and hope the movie provides.

Ode to “It’s a Wonderful Life”,
And how I love thee,
For you make me realize that my life, is quite indeed,
very lovely.
Happy New Year’s!

I’ve watched this movie so many times I’ve lost count. Even sometimes hold screenings in the summer. Frank Capra had a love of Americana and a definite message, didn’t he? Here’s to 2010~Happy New Year!

One of my all time favourite Christmas movies! And I just love James Stewart too! I know, a bit old fashioned in these days, but I have loved him since I was a little girl!
Have a great New Year, Duckie! You just never fail to cheer me up.
Looking forward to more stories from The Pond!

I agree. This is an amazing movie! We watch in on Christmas Eve every year.
Happy New Year!

I love it too! I do think it is a little depressing though. I mean he never got to follow his dreams and the younger brother got to do everything!

I watched It’s a Wonderful Life for the first time this year because it was playing on tv and I loved it. I agree that it’s a good movie to watch on New Years day as it can be depressing knowing all the holidays are over.

About your question, it’s residual snow!

Happy New Year Duckie, Ben, Bitty and Bear and all the other creatures in the Pond!! I hope it’s the best ever. I am predicting great things for you this year. I had wanted to call you over the holidays but you were away.
Good for you, but sad for me! I love It’s a Wonderful Life. One of my all time favourite films. It just would not be the holidays without me forcing Todd to sit through it with me at least once!! I just adore it so very much. I miss Jimmy Stuart. He was a real treasure. So was Donna Reid. I send lots of love. You need to e-mail me! xxoo

Ain’t that the truth!! January is such a sudden anticlimax, I should try watching it again now. I particularly liked the SNL sketch from years ago–the lost ending. Watching Mr. Potter get beaten up was SO satisfying…

Happy New Year! It’s a Wonderful Life is my husband’s favorite movie and I love it too!
January 4th, 2010 at 2:03 pm
I’m so with you on this one. I watched it again with my 7 year old and he loved it as much as I do every year.
January 4th, 2010 at 3:01 pm
A great flick and I didn’t get to watch this holiday season! I wish you a very Happy New Year!

This is one of my favorite movies, too. I put it in every year and laugh and cry with the movie. My husband thinks it is funny that I always cry and laugh, but he watches the movie with me any way.
