If I could go anywhere today…

Posted on February 9th, 2010 in Stories

san-franciscoIf I could go anywhere today,

I’d go to San Francisco.

Dance along the Golden Gate Bridge,

Sing with the seals on the wharf,

And eat plenty of that sourdough bread.

colorado 2

If I could go anywhere today,

I’d go to Colorado like it is in the summer.

Ride horseback among the mountain ridges dotted with wildflowers,

bike through the thick forests,

Paddleboat across sparkling lakes,

And eat plenty of good mountain food.

maine-portland

If I could go anywhere today,

I’d go to Portland, Maine, in the summer.

I’d scamper among the rocky beaches looking for starfish and crabs,

Peer from the lighthouses.

I’d adopt a lobster friend named Booger,

Search the seas for whales,

And eat plenty of fish chowder,

Just like a sea captain would do.

Hotel del Coronado

If I could go anywhere today,

I’d go to Cornado Island.

I’d search for the ghost in the famous hotel,

run up and down the black glittering beaches

just like the tiny crabs do.

I’d rent a boogie board and hit the waves,

in a wet suit, just like all the real surfers do,

Eat plenty of tasty grilled fish and my burritos barrio-style,

and pretend (for a few days) I was a California girl.

If I could go anywhere today,

I’d go to Treasure Island, Florida.

I’d swim along the shore with the dolphins,

mumble on to the manatees,

And do the stingray shuffle across the sand.

I’d take a boat into the crystal blue water,

and snorkel with the fishes,

And then dig into some blackened grouper

And some soft peanut butter ice cream.

Alaska 186

If I could go anywhere today,

I’d go to Alaska.

I’d serenade the mooses,

Frolic with the black bears,

Fly above the trees in one of the tiny planes,

And eat tons and tons of halibut.

Oh, I do love halibut.

If I could go anywhere today,

I’d go to New Orleans.

I’d run around the French quarter,

scamper through the swamps,

visit all the voodoo shops and buy a shrunken head or two,

And eat plenty of beignets and bread pudding,

With a po’ boy and lots of fried catfish to top it off.

germany1

If I could go anywhere today,

I’d go to Germany.

I’d wonder through all the castles,

look for fairy tales in the Black Forest,

troll through the markets for the perfect cuckoo clock and of course,

let Ben drive me wildly about on the Autobahn.

Then I would eat as many schnitzels and strudels and sausage and pretzels as I could stuff down my gullet,

Just to get the true experience, of course.

West-Texas

If I could go anywhere today,

I’d go to West Texas, right along the New Mexico border,

All the way to Fort Davis and the mountains.

When I was growing up, I spent many summers and winters out there,

playing in a desert you could see for miles,

hanging out with relatives and my grandfather

And feeling at once so very big, and so very small.

But I think today, if I could go anywhere,

I think I might go somewhere more familiar.

Because as much as I love to wonder and roam,

my favorite place to go is home.

Stay tuned, Invisible FriendsTomorrow we have a new pet shop story and Thursday, a delectable recipe!  Friday a new Dallas Jean and Saturday, some Valentine Day love!  Stay tuned!

Wow! I was thinking the very same thing this morning when I woke up, and voila~Here you are posting about traveling…Right now, I’m in the mood for California, too. Aahh to be a Cali. girl…Just for a day. I so want to go visit Cal. again and maybe this time actually get to see more of it and perhaps even Venice Beach?…Just because…I desperately want to soak in the culture and the colors…and the eccentricity of L.A….I NEED something different in my life now & again, ya know? A break from my Mayberry-ish existance.

    Good day!

  11. Scrappy Girl Says:

The place that I would go today would be right here, but then I have tonsillitus and am feeling pretty yuk! But I would really like to go anywhere where the sun is shining and we don’t have any snow! Cold I can deal with, but this Winter seems to have dragged on for far too long!
