Ode to Twirling and How I Love Thee

Ode to Twirling
(And How I Love thee)
Ode to twirling,
And how I love thee,
For in my mind,
There is no better activity.

Twirling is something,
Anyone can do.
You can twirl through the mall, the grocery store, the dance floor,
As far as away as the moon or as close as the zoo.
Twirling can be done in a dress,
With a soft skirt billowing,
In jeans or pajama pants,
Or if you’re really brave, down the beach in a bikini.

The joy of twirling is–
Just that, it’s pure joy.
When you’re spinning across the dance floor,
Whether it’s your living room carpet or a dance hall,
A empty cubicle or an elegant ball,
The only thing you think while you’re spinning,
is nothing at all.
For it’s pure joy.

One of the great things about twirling,
Is it’s something everyone can do.
Young or old,
Big or small,
Whether you’re a little or big girl, puppy or even a hippo!
(As the Queen of the Hippos, I should know.)

Even her majesty Queen Bitty,
Has been known to twirl,
After a good peanut butter cookie
Or a chunk of turkey dropped on the floor.

Twirling is also quite beneficial to one’s health,
so the experts say.
At least one hour of twirling a day,
Keeps the spirits high, the heart spinning and the doctor away.

Ode to twirling,
And how I love thee.
For without twirling in my life,
I would be one sad little duckie.
Stay tuned, Invisible Friends! Tomorrow we have a new Pet Shop story and Thursday, a delectable recipe to warm you up! Friday we have a new Dallas Jean and Saturday, the second part to the Land of the Flowered Bed adventure!

Twirl away girl… I say do whatever tickles your toes (as long as it is ethical). My girls love to twirl till they fall. It is pure joy!

I miss twirling with my little guys. However, you have inspired me to reach within and find that young-at-heart girl and let her twirl awhile. (However, why do I feel I need to be, like 50 lbs smaller to twirl?)
You might like my post on twirling. It’s kind of close to my heart.

February 23rd, 2010 at 8:34 am
Your last commenter had me busting up laughing. Just read that!
Twirling is quite the lost art. I am glad to see you reclaiming it here.
And I absolutely adore the pics of you and your husband, Miranda. So very sweet.

I like this poem. It reminds me of the Friends episode when Rachael and Pheobe go running inthe park and Pheobe runs like how she did when she was little. Twirling is kind of the same. Very fancy-free.
February 23rd, 2010 at 12:54 pm
Oh, I’ve missed you, Dear Duckie!
Twirling is the Very Best Part of being a girl, if you ask me.
February 23rd, 2010 at 1:02 pm

February 23rd, 2010 at 1:16 pm
Remembering when I was little- wearing fluffly, frilly dresses that would spin high around me as I twirled! Also, so much fun to twirl until you could twirl no more!
Happy Twirling!

haha you know twirling was my favourite thing when I was young? I used to love making myself dizzy and then trying to undizzy myself. OK I’m going to try twirling again tonight!
February 24th, 2010 at 5:07 am
I have never felt so strongly that we were destined to be friends. I also love twirling! I used to go out during recess with my friend and we’d twirl in circles for the whole time. Sometimes she would have to stop, but nothing could make me cease twirling.
At some point today I am going to go through my office twirling.
This might not end well.
February 24th, 2010 at 11:15 am
You’re so funny! I think I need to twirl a bit more!
February 24th, 2010 at 12:03 pm

When you talk about twirling I always think of “Hilda Must Be Dancing” but just for the record I do not think you are a hippo…haha.
February 25th, 2010 at 8:47 am
I don’t think I’ve done a good twirl in years. I need to go find a dress with a flippy skirt so I can do it properly!
