Brisket–La Style

Now, Invisible Friends, that’s La as in Louisiana, not Los Angeles, California.
We don’t do California brisket around here.
Do they even eat brisket in California?
Life would be very sad without brisket. I would be a very unhappy duckie.

Anyway, this brisket is different than my bbq brisket. It’s cooked in the oven for six hours until it’s so tender it falls apart…without a hint of bbq sauce or liquid smoke.

Of course, I slathered mine in barbecue sauce. But I slather everything in barbecue sauce.

Or gravy. Or cream cheese icing. But that’s another tale for another time.

The recipe came from my darling mother in law, who got it from her best friend Margaret. So you know it’s got to be good. It’s doubly approved by two cooks who can make you drool into your shoelaces.

And this will make anyone drool. Whether it’s a dinner for two, a dinner to impress or just a lazy Saturday, make it.
You’ll love it.
Trust me.
Brisket–La Style
1 Large brisket 3-5 lbs (Depending on how many feeding, it shrinks. I’d plan for 1/2 lb. meat per person. I bought a three pound brisket and it only made four servings.)
1 package dry Lipton’s onion soup mix
Garlic powder
Pepper
Salt
1 cup brewed coffee
Cut off all silverskin and extra fat off bottom of brisket, or get your butcher to do this. Place in 9 x 12 ” pan. Pour cup of coffee, soup, garlic powder and pepper over meat. Cover with foil and bake at 250 degrees for six hours. It will be tender and juicy. Serve with mashed potatoes, grits, baked beans or macaroni and cheese–whatever your favorite Southern dish is.
It’s brisket–the La way.
Stay tuned, Invisible Friends! We have a new Dallas Jean tomorrow and the final edition of the Land of the Flowered Bed and doldrums Saturday! Stay tuned!

I’m sorry, but I’m a Texas girl, so I have to stay true to my roots. Texas Brisket beats all. Ok, fine. Even I will admit that recipe sounds good, but if you ask me in front of any other Texans, I will deny it.

Although this looks great and so fabulous, you know that I am not a meat eater, so please can you post some vegetarian recipes?
I’m going to have to start to eat meat again at this rate!
Big hugs, sweetie!

Great minds think alike! lol We made Brisket on Tuesday but I do mine in a crock pot with new potatoes, onions and carrots on the bottom, brisket fat-side-up, and nearly covered with stock/water. I read somewhere that using a beer for part of the liquid works well but I completely forgot about trying it this week.
We’ve basically taken to allowing 1 lb per person, pre-cook weight, because of the shrinkage.

A world without brisket would indeed be a sad world. I couldn’t imagine. I do not make brisket a lot (I usually order it when we go to my favorite BBQ place) but I do not see why I shouldn’t start making it immediately. Your recipe sounds delicious and that meat looks so tender…yum! Now I’m craving brisket

While the recipe sounds wonderful, I love the dogs in the family photo. CLEARLY, your inlaws are good people!

The only time I ever heard the word “brisket” used was on “Seinfeld.” I have never tasted it myself; though it looks scrummy!!

Mmm this looks good! As a californian I can say that I’m pretty sure we don’t have a CA Brisket since I didn’t even know what brisket was until this lovely post.
