Chick Food
Posted on June 30th, 2011 in Food
I’ve never been into chickpeas.
I’ve tried them with lentils.
I’ve tried them in cous cous.
I’ve tried them in hummus.
Let’s just say it didn’t compare to pie.
But then I tried them roasted….
And I was a happy duckie.
They were salty.
They were tasty.
They were delectable.
I think I’ll make some more.

I’m not a huge fan of chick peas, either. I can handle them in small doses in hummus. Maybe I should try roasting them! Thanks for the suggestion!

Yum! I actually love chickpeas but I can see how they might not be for everyone. It took me awhile to really appreciate their taste. I have to try them roasted. It could be my new snack…..

I LOVE chick peas and now must have them roasted! I’m pretty sure I have a can in the pantry… I’m having some just as soon as I get home. If I had a can here, I’d have them for lunch.

Love chickpeas in anything!
Hoep you have a great 4th of July too, Duckie!

I was never a fan of chickpeas, either, until I started making my own hummus and, recently, a recipe for an Indian sweet that has chickpeas as part of the filling.

My mom always picks her chickpeas out of a salad and gives them to me. I love them. I love hummus and chickpea curry. I’ve tried roasting them, but in all honesty, I don’t like them the way I like nuts.

Those sound good. I’ve really been into roasting lately. Next time I fire up the oven, I think I’ll throw these in too.

Thank you so much for the recipe, Duckie! I actually like chickpeas, so I’m happy to see a new way to eat them. Dh usually just makes hummus with them.
Hey, I’ll be on blog-break for about a month and probably won’t have access to the internet either, so I just want to wish you a glorious July and want you to know that if you don’t see me commenting it’s not because I don’t love ya, but because I can’t get online.

I feel the same way about these garbanzo beans. I have never cared for anything made with them, even while others love them. Also, they look like little butts to me.
I do like the idea of them being crunchy as consistency has been part of the problem. I’ll have to try this! Thanks

I’ve never been a big chickpea fan either…I didn’t like how they never would really get soft and “beany”. But roasted, I guess they’re not supposed to be soft….sounds great to me!

Never had them before – I think there’s a can at home I can try this with

Very nice! Chickpeas go well with lentils, don’t they?…
June 30th, 2011 at 12:28 pm
I, like you (of the past), never really cared for the taste nor texture of chick peas. About the only way I like chick peas in pureed into hummus. And that still is not as tasty as pie.
But I just so have a can of the chalky peas and I just so happen to have the other ingredients. I shall give it a try.
Thanks…

So are they crunchy like corn nuts or are they still soft inside? I like them in 3 bean salad. Thanks for stopping by my blog Preserving Home Basics earlier! I like pie too!

June 30th, 2011 at 7:23 pm
I haven’t tried baking chickpeas yet, which is just horrible, because they’re my favorite bean! Thanks for reminding me I need to do so
June 30th, 2011 at 7:45 pm
Strangely enough I’m the opposite, I like chickpeas enough in other dishes, all except roasted. I just find them hard to crack!
June 30th, 2011 at 11:56 pm
