“What are you talking about?”  Prince Adam narrowed his eyes.

“It’s simple.”  Coralie pulled out a purple piece of chalk.  Sketching across the sky, purple armor formed over the pegasus’ head and eyes.  The pegasus shook his mane, now capped by a purple iron helmet.

Do you really think this will work? His amused words bounced around her head.

“Yes, I do.”  Pulling out a piece of pink chalk, Coralie sketched a helmet around the Griffath.  Curling her hand around with a flourish, she slid the chalk back into the box and grinned.  “There!”

The Prince turned his head and grimaced.  “Pink!  Why pink?”

That’s not very manly, the Pegausus chided.

“I don’t care about manly, I care about safe.”  Coralie slid the box back into her pocket.  “Now we can fly down without worrying about being blasted.”

“Shouldn’t we have some armor?” Aurora asked, eying her bare arms.  “I mean, I’m really glad our brave steeds are protected, but what about us?”

“Brave steeds?”  Prince Adam snorted.  The Griffith squawked in protest, nearly toppling him over.

“Hmm, good point.”  Coralie thought a moment, than pulled out a piece of yellow chalk.  “Hold your arms out.”

Puzzled, Aurora did as she was instructed.  With a flourish, Coralie sketched a long golden cloak that clasped around her neck, flowing round her body with a voluminous hood.   For herself, she sketched a large shield covered with pink roses.  She turned to Prince Adam, who tapped his sword. “I’ll take my chances.”

“Suit yourself.”  Coralie shrugged, sliding the chalk back into her box.  “Ready?”

“Ready.” Prince Adam nodded.

“Ready.”  Aurora gripped her arms tighter around Coralie’s waist, drawing her hood up.  “How is this going to protect me, by the way?”

Coralie grinned.  “You’ll see.  Ready?”

Ready. The Pegasus shook his mane, a twinkle in his eye.

The Griffith crowed, pawing the air.  Thrusting his sword into the sky, Prince Adam shook back his golden hair.  “To the dragons!”

“To the dragons!”  Coralie echoed, her arms wrapped around the Griffith’s neck.

To the dragons. Whinnying, the Pegasus dove down, dashing through steams of clouds and ribbons of sky.  He dodged dragon after dragon, settling between a pink dragon with purple wings and a golden dragon with silver eyes.

“Pardon me?” Coralie asked politely.  “Do you know if one of your companions has borrowed a friend of ours?  A boy named Chris?”

“And Princess Zaria,” Adam reminded her, raising his voice.  “We must find the Princess!”

The pink dragon snorted.  The golden dragon barely looked at them.  In unison, they both dove down, flying deep within the group.

“We’ll try again,” Coralie said, determined.  “Excuse me!”  She tapped the side of a blue dragon.  “Excuse me!”

“You, there!”  Prince Adam wielded his sword around a purple dragon with green wings.  “Have you seen Princess Zaria?”

“I still think that’s a terrible name,” Aurora muttered.

“Excuse me?”  Coralie peered at the dragon.  “May I ask you a question?”

With a snort of flame, the dragon rose over them, his wings flapping languidly and without interest as he rose into the clouds.  The green dragon dove down, vanishing into the cluster of dragons below.

What now? The Pegasus turned, his eyes gleaming behind his purple helmet.  What’s your plan?

Coralie would never admit she didn’t have one.  So she had to think, as fast and as hard as she could.

But when she saw what lay before them, inspiration struck.  A smile bloomed over her face.

“If one wants to talk to a dragon, one must talk like a dragon,” she murmurred.  Turning around on the pegasus back, she grinned at Aurora and Adam.

“I have an idea.”

Stay tuned, Invisible Friends!  We have some exciting changes to announce tomorrow!
