I might be part Californian

Posted on July 12th, 2011 in Food, Stories

As a Texan girl who loves her meat…

Rides horses and goes to rodeos…

Wears boots with her sundresses…

it pains me to say…

There might be a little Californian in me.

Point one:  I love the beach, dolphins and anything to do with the ocean.

Point two:  I have an addiction to Katy Perry.  And a secret love of the Beach Boys.

Point three:  When I was little, I loved the Babysitter’s Club books.  My favorite character?  Dawn.   She was blond and blue-eyed, just like me, and I loved her personality.  I always thought it was silly though how she would freak out about preservatives and never ate candy.  Much to my chargin, I now am a health nut. I eat salads.  I get excited about vegetables.  I even eat tofu.  Sometimes.  When Ben makes me.

Though I’ll never give up pie.

Point 4:  I love swimming.  I love water skiing.  I love boats and being anywhere near or on the water, whether it’s a lake or ocean.

Point five:  I like fitness.  And aerobics. Particularly Chiaerobics.

Point six:  Elle Woods is my idol.  Need I say more?

Point seven:  I want to live here just to go to this place and all their workshops.

Point eight:  I demanded inline skates for my birthday.  Pink ones.

Point nine:  I like burritos CA-style.  Especially Freebirds.

Point ten: I like the sun, hate rain and love the idea of temperatures staying between 60 and 80 degrees.

At first, I was terrified I lost my Texan ways, but then I realized….

I grew up in Austin.  And if you’ve ever been to Austin….

You know that explains everything.

Stay tuned, Invisible Friends!  We have a new Shimmer manana and a delicious recipe review tomorrow! Stay tuned!

    California girls are undeniable! :)

It took me a while to get back into the swing of working out after I had kids by choice…but I think anyone who wants to MAKE time for it can. I get up EARLY to do it – before the kids most days and it works great. I have an elliptical at my house and lots of exercise DVD’s. I also go to a boot camp style workout 3 mornings a week. I go to pilates once a week. Just take that baby with you – their are tons of mommy baby workouts! And baby will be healthier (eventually) because of it. :)

When we were looking at buying commercial real estate in Austin, the realtor told us, “Strap one on if you’re looking to do business in Austin, guys.” That said it all for Austin.

And California isn’t all that. Just sayin’.

  41. Niki Says:

As a representative of central coast California, I say WELCOME! :) But yeah, like joeinvegas says, you gotta love avacados too!

  42. Lindsay Says:

I was a Babysitters Club freak! I owned the entire series (well over 100 books), movies, and even started my own babysitters club haha. Dawn was my favorite too because she was a California girl, and I am the opposite of that, and live in a climate opposite of California.

  43. Rachel (S[d]OC) Says:

I’d much rather eat pie than tofu! Pie won’t mess with your hormones like tofu can – and it tastes way better!

I’ve been a fair number of place (been to L.A. once, never been to Austin and my coverage to TX has been 3 business trips to Houston), but as much as I love the countryside and wish myself far away from here quite often, I think I am always a New Yorker. Something about this area just wants to stay in my head and never leave. I don’t think I could ever say I was from anywhere else. I think I could move to another part of the country and 50 years later I’d still be saying, “I don’t care how they do it here. I’m from New York.” Then I’d go through a few hours of self-loathing!

  44. Natasha Says:

Beach Boys + Kate Perry – that’s an unusual combination, but hey… I like U2 and I sometimes like to watch Paris Hilton’s My New BFF. It’s a crazy world :)
p.s. I like your smile and I like your blog. Wanna exchange teeth, i.e. links? :)
