Within minutes, it was unamiously decided no one liked the swamp.

Make that seconds.

“It’s hot,” groused the first dwarf.

“It’s all wet,” whined the second dwarf, his toes squeaking in his shoes.

“We’re going to get eaten and die,” the third dwarf informed them glumly.

“This is stupid,” Adam grunted, slicing through layers upon layers of vines dangling from the skies.  “It’s already been hours.  Heck, it could have been days.  We haven’t seen Princess Zaria or Chris–or even a dragon!  We’ve got to think of a new plan.”

“And what would you propose we do?” Aurora snapped.  Her hair clung to her flushed cheeks in damp ringlets, like a beraggled rag doll.

“Not this!”  Adam hacked away a new clump of vines.  “The dwarf is right–we’ll get eaten or die.  We need a plan, somewhere to go.  We can’t follow someone when we don’t know where they went.”

He’s right. The Pegausus lifted a muddy hoof, snorting.  This is futile. We must find another way.

“Is there another way around the swamp?” Coralie asked.

“We could fly…”  Adam paused, glancing up at the clustered clumps of moss dangling above his head.  He swiped them down, yelping as several critters scurried from the fallen weeds and scuttled over his toes.  “But if we fly, we risk the dragons.  They’ll be looking for us now.”

Plus, the Griffith and I are exhausted. We need nourishment and rest before we fly again–neither which we have time for.  We must hurry, before the dragon reaches his destination with your friend and the princess.

“What would the dragon do to them?”  Coralie asked nervously.

What would a horse do with a carrot? The Pegasus eyed her.

“Food would be great,” Aurora murmured, pressing her hands to her thin stomach.  “I’m half starved.”

“We’re all hungry and tired,” Prince Adam snapped.  He kicked a branch out of their path, whacking at a cluster of brush.  “What’s your point?”

“Her point is we need a change,” Coralie said.  Pulling out the box of chalk, she selected a purple piece.  “A big change.”

“Oh please,” Adam snorted, watching as Coralie’s fingers scratched through the air, sketching wildly.  “If this works, I’ll wear a tutu.”

“I’ll hold you to that.”  Aurora smirked, watching as a large basket of fruit appeared in mid air, dropping slowly below to a quickly sketched picnic blanket thrown over the soggy ground.  Cold fried chicken, cheese and a bucket of macaroni and cheese with meat and fruit hand pies quickly filled the cloth, along with a artfully displayed plate of crudites with ranch dressing.

“My favorite!” Aurora cried, descending upon the macaroni and fried chicken.

“Delicious!” a dwarf cried, gobbling grapes.

“Supurb!” the second dwarf cheered, nibbling a ranch covered carrot.

“Excellent!” the third dwarf exclaimed, a chicken leg in each hand.

I do love carrots, the Pegasus sighed.

“I guess I’m wearing a tutu,” Adam groaned, digging into the macaroni and cheese as the Griffith ate straight from a bucket of potato salad.

“A big pink one,” Aurora grinned.

As her friends ate, Coralie rubbed her fingers together, her mind churning.  There was an image, something she needed to get down, to sketch.  Opening the chalk box, she peered inside and gasped.  Two new pieces of chalk had appeared–one silver, and one gold.

Without thinking, she reached for the silver, bending down to a dark stone.  As her fingers flew, her eyes couldn’t believe the sight.

Stay tuned, Invisible Friends!  We have a week worth of whimsy!

And did you hear about the Gift?

    Hmmmm….something silver….
What could she possibly need that is silver?
Or as with the purple chalk, will it be something all together different….as in not something silver?
    :-)
I should think it is something that will get them out of there, keep them safe from the dragon or both.

    Have a beautiful weekend.

    cute post. :]

i’m curious, though. why do you call it the griffith? you’re referring to the mythological beast, right? that’s a griffin.

thanks for visiting picky and leaving it some love. i enjoyed harry potter. am sad that it’s come to an end. but all good things …

and writing? or trying to? it definitely sucks when the words won’t come. so infuriating.

so far, i’m surviving daycare. i think it’s come to an end, too. but not sure. last week we kept them overnight. this past week, we watched them during the day. i don’t know what mom’s plans are for next week. hopefully she’s going to make my sister-in-law woman up and own her kids again. two weeks of rest from surgery is quite enough, wouldn’t you say?

and as for the books, we finally got around to reading dirtball pete. he didn’t say he liked it this time, but he wanted me to read it again as soon as i was through. so i’d say that’s pretty much the same thing.

I’m thinking she should draw a nice dry path or road or bridge through the swamp!

I don’t know why, but this swamp scene made me think of “The Bog of Eternal Stench” from “Labyrinth”
