Friday Five and Blue Eyes 5
Five Movies for a Frightful Friday Night…
1) Hocus Pocus
2) Poltergeist
3) The Ring
4) Casper
5) The Glum Pumpkin
And now, for Blue Eyes 5…. (see RSS feed at side bar!)
“You want me to prove it now?” His voice taunted her, his wrinkled face curling into more of a leer than a smile. ”In front of everyone?”
Her leg rumbled from Biscuit’s rising growl. ”I’ve got stuff to do. Get with it.”
“Layla?” Her teacher’s hand pressed against her arm, her fingertips cold. ”Layla, who are you talking to?”
Biscuit rose, his shark bark ringing through the silent room.
There’s no one there.
She’s crazy.
I always knew she was pyscho. We’ve always known…ever since her grandmother disappeared.
“My grandmother didn’t disappear!” Layla screamed, leaping out of her chair. Her braille book slid across the desk, slapping against the floor. ”She didn’t leave me. She didn’t.”
Biscuit whimpered, his soft tongue bathing her icy fingertips as he pressed against her.
“Layla.” Her teacher’s whisper chilled her to the core. ”No one said anything.”
She whirled around, her glacier blue eyes piercing the doorway. The ghost crossed his arms, leaning against it smugly.
“What does that prove?” she asked, her voice as harsh as the fear needling her.
The blood dripping behind him, a long trail on the floor, the ghost stepped toward her. ”It proves that your worst fears are closer than you think,” he whispered, his dark eyes pools of glee. ”It proves that what you don’t remember could be your undoing. If you don’t harness your gift, Layla, it could destroy you. It’s already so much bigger than you think.”
She would have closed her eyes, but there was no point. His words burned into her brain, his decaying face inches from hers. Biscuit lunged forward, darting through transparent legs and snapping at opaque hands.
“You’re the only one who can help us, Layla. The only one that can stop it.”
She swallowed hard. ”And if I don’t?”
“Then you’ll never find her.” He held up a golden locket, one she hadn’t seen in 13 years. She grabbed for it, her fingers grasping only air. ”She’s the one you want, Layla. The one you’ve been searching for.” His voice held mocking his eyes did not. ”For if you don’t find her, how can you find yourself? Your real self?”
Layla took a deep breath. ”If I help you, will you take me to her?”
He laid a bloody palm on hers, smearing rust across her fingers. ”I swear.”
Wiping her hand against her jeans, Layla turned towards the panicked breathing on her right. ”I need to go to the nurse,” she informed her teacher, barely audible over Biscuit’s frantic barks. ”I don’t feel well.”
“Yes, yes.” Her teacher’s voice trembled. ”Of course.”
Leaving her books and bag on the floor, Layla walked out with only Biscuit by her side. Bypassing the office, she walked out the school front doors and down the sidewalk, ignoring the stares and whispers from the desperate faces peppering both sides of the street. Tires slowed to her right, brakes gently squeaking. She froze as a car door clicked open, someone tall and thin rising from the seat.
“Layla? We’ve been sent for you.”
Stay tuned, Invisible Friends! We have a new week of whimsy ahead.

I am truly and thoroughly creeped out. What do they want with her? Why can’t they just leave her alone? Love those movies, though. You counter one that’s ridiculously scary like The Ring with wonderful ones like Casper and Hocus Pocus. I hope you enjoy your weekend, and I’m doing alright.
October 28th, 2011 at 5:29 am
I’ve seen 3 of those movies. Not too big on horror. Have to walk around way too much in the dark taking care of animals to watch creepy stuff.

I just had to drop by and tell you I laughed hysterically at your comment on Shell’s page about talking to a rock and hopes it talks back. You are so cute and funny. A beautiful combination. Thanks for sharing your blog.

Do you know I’ve never seen Hocus Pocus. I’d heard of it, but not given it much thought. You are probably the 5th person I’ve heard mention it this Halloween and I swear no one has made that big a deal of it before. I’m going to have to watch it!

ARGH. She should NOT be getting in that car.
October 30th, 2011 at 4:32 pm
I’m proud of myself because I have actually seen “Poltergeist” and “The Ring.” The first didn’t scare me nearly as much as the second, which didn’t let me sleep for probably two weeks.

Poltergeist has to be one of the scariest movies ever! And the fact that the little girl died in real life makes it worse to watch.
October 31st, 2011 at 8:12 am
She’s made a deal with the devil. I’m very curious. This isn’t one of those stories where I can sit around and guess what happens next.
No Halloween recipes for me this year. No time to bake these days even if I desperately want to.
October 31st, 2011 at 8:26 am
Great movies, they are funny!
