Magical Monday 64
The leaves are gold and green,
The days warm and the nights cool,
The cacti is flowering,
Welcome to a Texas fall.
We’ve got football and tailgating,
Chili and barbecue,
In tank tops and flip flops,
Welcome to a Texas fall.
This Thanksgiving,
Most turkeys are smoked or deep fried,
Stuffing called dressing and baked on the outside.
Forget pumpkin, give me the pecan pie–
Welcome to a Texas Thanksgiving.
Go on a hike,
Go on a ride,
Go out to Grandma’s ranch a long, winding drive,
Welcome to a Texas fall.
Don’t forget the enchiladas,
the pumpkin empanadas and tamales,
Or the strudel and kolaches so sweet,
Welcome to a Texas fall.
We may be in shorts,
We may be in sweaters,
There’s no telling with Texas weather.
But whether we’re hot in the kitchen,
Or freezing on the Babies’ walk,
All you can do is grin and give thanks,
For living in such a great state.
Welcome to a Texas fall.
Stay tuned, Invisible Friends! We have a Theo the Turkey to make an appearance mañana!

My father has lived in Texas (South) for years. Your poem reflects what he loves about living there. Well, and calling me in January and telling me how it was so called he had to wear socks–knowing that I am shoveling snow.

Thanksgiving food, light sweaters, and being able to watch football games outside without turning into human popsicles? I am SO jealous! Not that I’m bitter about that Thanksgiving when it snowed here in NJ at all, when I was in the high school marching band at all…
November 14th, 2011 at 8:28 pm
I love fall also. It has been a great fall in Minnesota, but soon the snow will be falling. Not looking forward to the snow, you are lucky to be in Texas.

Howdy there! I’m from Texas originally…LOVED your post! The leaves are also beautiful here in Colorado…although we’ve already had a few snowstorms to give the trees a good shake!
