Friday Five and Blue Eyes 11
This Friday, The Blond Duck presents her top Five Christmas Movies…
1) The Muppet Christmas Carol
2) White Christmas
3) The Grinch Who Stole Christmas
4) Elf
5) Rudolph, of course!
And now, for a new Blue Eyes….
Layla didn’t scream. She didn’t have time to.
As the security guard’s hand tightened around her elbow, the ghost grabbed her other arm, his icy fingers entwining through hers. Furious, she glared up into his white irises. ”Cookie, this is no time to hold my hand!”
“Forgive me,” he whispered. Whirling her around as though they were on a dance floor, he stepped forward. Ice encased her, every muscle and nerve licked by frostbitten flames. Aunt Cordelia’s lips moved, her voice lost in a wind-whipped roar as Layla’s arms jerked away from the shadow, leaping over the terminal and bolting down the airport. Biscuit raced behind her, his leash flapping against her flying feet. Her lungs burned as her legs pounded toward the doors, faster and longer than she would have ever moved them.
A rope whipped around her, yanking her to the floor. The ice shattered, the cold leeching away as Layla panted, her ice blue eyes staring into a sky she couldn’t see.
“Got her!” A voice cracked nearby.
“Hurry up and get her to the car before security gets here.”
“I thought Tom bought us more time.”
“Tom can’t buy us everything.”
“You idiot you may have paralyzed her.”
“She’s not paralyzed.” Fingers snapped overhead. ”Hey, are you ok? Layla, are you all right?”
She didn’t have to answer. The tiny cold ball lodged between her ribs shot out as she arched up, head flying back as her blue eyes closed. The men around her screamed, tiny white pulses racing across their shadows, cracking them into a rain of fine ash. A pair of hands pulled her up and into Aunt Cordelia’s arms. The warm light wrapped around her, the spirit’s eyes peering into her own.
White eyes.
Two white dots twinkling against a sea of black…
The stars blazing overhead, the cold desert wind whipping around her. Her grandmother’s arms wrapped around her for the last time.
“Watch out for her, Mary,” she whispered. The pale figure draped in ribbons of moonlight bowed her head, luminescent tears falling onto the sand. Not a single mark tarred the perfect white.
“I’ll guide her.” Aunt Cordelia gripped the hand of her mirror image, a carbon copy of dark curls and pale skin. But the eyes that gripped her grandmother’s were not blue, but violet. ”I’ll take care of her, I promise.”
“I know, Mary.” Her grandmother replied, kissing Layla’s head. ”I know you wish things were different. But I’ll take care of her. I promise. You can help. You can watch over them, guide them until they can be together.”
“But what will we do if he comes for them?” Aunt Cordelia twisted around, her whisper cutting through all of them. ”What will we do if he comes?”
Layla’s tiny voice exploded. ”He’s already here. He’s coming. He’s coming…for me.”
“Layla, are you all right?”
The flash of blue nearly knocked the spirit back, a writhing shadow on the floor. The other shadows squirmed beside her, Cookie and Biscuit no where to be found. Layla was alone. As she always had been. Pulling herself up, she whispered into the screaming chaos around her.
“I remember.”
Much to her dismay, she remembered everything.
Stay tuned, Invisible Friends! We have a new week of whimsy coming up!

This is definitely your freakiest story ever!
My favorite Christmas movie isn’t technically a “Christmas” movie, but it does center around Christmas – “Love Actually”. Awesome movie.
