Magical Monday 87
“Good evening.” The sparrow hopped toward me, a tiny white scrap clutched in his beak. ”Tonight our special is the grilled trout, with a side of sprouts and clovers.”
I glanced around the empty patio scattered with chairs, tables set with invisible plates and patrons. “I’m sorry?”
“Are you dining alone or will you be meeting someone?” The bird cocked his head at me.
I checked my watch. “It’s only 10 a.m.”
“We take dinner reservations early.” The bird sighed around the napkin. “I do hope you make your decision soon. It shall be very crowded tonight.”
The corners of my lips twitched. “How so?”
“Well the grackles will be dining on the crumbs under table seven and the mockingbirds shall be having french fries at table and nine…” The birds eyes flicked to the scrap of paper. ”I can put you at table three, if you don’t mind sitting next to the robins. They’re quite chatty.”
“That would be fine.” I allowed myself to be lead to an empty table, pulling out a chair and plopping down. A small second sparrow fluttered up on the table, his black eyes shining.
“Can I get you some bird seed to start? Perhaps a few twigs or grubs?”
My giggles burbled in my throat. “Whatever you think would be best.”
“Of course.” Ducking his head, the tiny bird flew towards the locked restaurant door, slipping through a small crack in the foundation.
And as the robins tweeted only feet away from me, I leaned back and smiled.
For the first time, bird food might be enjoyable.
Stay tuned, Invisible Friends! A new Easter post mañana!

I’d be careful sitting near those robins though. Robin are kind of messy…if you know what I mean. Keep an umbrella handy!

So fitting for a bird and spring to be at the center of your story. I feel like I eat birdseed because I very much like nuts and seeds.

And I thought I was the only one who dined with the birds. I love when they’re in the yard when we’re eating ~ hopping, tweeting, flying around keeping us company. Your imagination is a total delight!
