Ode to Easter

Posted on April 3rd, 2012 in Stories

Ode to Easter,

And how I love thee,

For all year,

I wait for my favorite holiday.

Ode to Easter,

And how I love thee,

For how can one not love,

A day of a giant bunny?

Ever since I was a wee duckie,

Easter has always been my favorite time of year.

Cadbury eggs, jelly beans and treats,

Nestled with a fluffy bunny in a pink basket on Easter morning.

Every year my parents had a huge Easter party,

Three yards of eggs and festivities,

Dozens of kids laughing and chatting with the Easter Bunny,

With my mom’s famous Easter cake fueling the frivolity.

Now the Babies have an egg hunt every year,

While I bounce around in pink ears and grill burgers,

Ben nibbles on a chocolate bunny,

tending to the bluebonnets and spring flowers.

Forget Christmas and Thanksgiving,

Halloween and Valentine’s Day,

The only holiday I need is one with a giant bunny,

like I got from my grandpa every year as a little girl.

Break out your new dresses,

Slip on your new hats,

It’s time for the sweet celebration of spring,

And plenty of good apple pie.

Ode to Easter,

And How I Love Thee,

for there’s no better excuse,

than to buy a giant pink bunny.

(which makes me a happy, happy duckie.)

Stay tuned, Invisible Friends!  A new Wings mañana!

I so love Easter. I remember being young and excited about the Easter baskets almost as much as Christmas presents. Let’s not forget the dyed eggs. Plus, your bunny cake rocks!

  2. Carol @ Always Thyme to Cook Says:

You sure do know how to have fun :) That bunny cake looks so good!

  3. Lady Fi Says:

Hurray for Easter! Is that rice with sweets on it to make the bunny face?

  4. Scraps Says:

@LadyFi If I’m not mistaken that’s shredded coconut on the cake to make it look like fur.

Some of my earliest memories are of Easter at my grandmother’s house. With everyone grown up, now, we tend to have a rather low-key celebration with the immediate family, but I do think I need to break out the bunny ears this weekend, just because.

Although nothing topped Christmas or my birthday, the excitement of walnut, chocolate, and strawberry-whipped cream eggs was pretty intoxicating. And jelly beans of course. And a stuffed bunny rabbit is a MUST!

Hi Blond Duck .. you’re in your element in these coming weeks – please don’t eat too many chocolates! It’s a wonderful time of year as you say & you obviously have many happy memories of times with your grandparents and parents .. find little eggs around the garden etc .. Cheers Hilary

A big YES for Easter ~ for sweet memories, for bunnies who have the capability of bringing big smiles to all, to finding hidden eggs, for baskets overflowing with chocolates and for a Blond Duck who can bring all those memories back in a flash!

  9. Channon Says:

Easter and Thanksgiving were my father’s favorite holidays. He always slipped a nice piece of jewelry in a plastic egg in my basket. I haven’t been able to get the Knight to follow the program!!

  10. Marjie Says:

Well, this is cute. But I distinctly remember all of the holidays having their turns to be your favorite. That’s good; it’s better to enjoy life. My grandmother made a 5 foot tall papier mache bunny named Hepsibah around the time I was born. I have no idea what happened to her, but I did love her.

I love Easter. It is my most favorite holiday. I’m trying to figure out what to do about the Bunny Cake. We make one every year, but then the kids don’t actually EAT it. I need to figure out a way to make it so that they eat it!
