Bitty’s Books N’ Bites: Babysitter’s Club

I think I’ve bitten off more than I can chew.

I don’t think I can make it in this club.  There’s a lot of books.

I have very tiny eyes.  And an even smaller vocabulary.

The BabySitter Club Series  by Ann M. Martin has been one of the Blond Duck’s favorites since she was small. She devoured not only the Babysitter’s Club and it’s spin-off Karen, but even Ann M. Martin’s biography.

Considering the Blond Duck read most of the Babysitter’s Club before she could actually babysit, she gained a lot of useful tips and tricks.  Her favorite character was Dawn, even though she didn’t understand her penchant for health food.  Carob?  Tofu?

That doesn’t sound like pie.

The Blond Duck’s second favorite was Mallory.  Even though Mallory was the oldest of 8 children and the Blond Duck only has Danielle, Mallory was a shy bookworm who loved to read and write and wanted to be a children’s book author.  Her best friend was Jesse, a ballerina.  She wasn’t allowed to get her ears pierced until 9 while the Blond Duck wasn’t allowed until 10.  Mallory was very self conscious about her glasses and braces (the Blond Duck had braces and still wears glasses.)

I can’t imagine what they had in common.

There was even a movie about the series.

To celebrate the return to school and the fact that the only thing the Blond Duck babysits is other stuffed animals, I demanded she make macaroni and cheese, the only dish she ever made when she babysat.

But not the blue box.  I demanded she make Trisha Yearwood’s slow cooked macaroni and cheese.

Creamy.  Cheesy.  Delicious.

Just what I need to read the whole series.

Stay tuned, Invisible Friends!  A new Wings mañana and recipe Thursday.  Have you been by wordsnwhimsy.com today?

The Babysitter’s Club are not books I’m familiar with though I’m sure I would have enjoyed them.

Totally off to look at that recipe because well, YUM. Just had to add that I was COMPLETELY addicted to Babysitter’s Club, too. I was totally Kristy, but I really wanted to be Stacey.

I’m pretty sure I read some of these when I was a kid, but I was really more of a Nancy Drew/Cherry Ames/Trixie Belden reader :) I love that they had Raina Telgemeier create graphic novels of the stories.

  8. Channon Says:

Never had heard of those books. Pass the mac ‘n cheese, please?

  10. The Squishy Monster Says:

What’s crazy is that I was JUST thinking about this! I used to read it all the time and was also thinking how much has changed. It used to be about the adventures of babysitting and now it’s about seduction and vampires (aimed towards the same age bracket). It’s crazy how fast things can change!

  11. Natasha Says:

The BSC reminds me of when my sister used to read it and I’ve never been a fan of Mac and Cheese but lately it’s all I crave.

  12. Alexis AKA MOM Says:

I love love those books and the movie also. And holy moly that mac and cheese looks so yummy!!!

  13. Marjie Says:

The Babysitters Club is after my time, but my 3 girls read all of them, and the books are around, I think in a box in the attic.

And, hey, no being mean about the blue box M&C. It has its virtues, among them, easy to make while babysitting and kids love it! (The one babysitting customer whose kids I used to cook for paid me extra – $1.50 per hour, instead of $1 – because I would cook! Woo Hoo! That was more than minimum wage!)

  14. Stephanie @ PinkPeacockDesignStudio Says:

Oh my gosh, I loved the Babysitters Club! I remember one about a phantom phone caller, and one where they all went on a cruise, and one where…okay, I should stop now. Thanks for the memories!
