Review: Hotel Transylvania
When October comes, I break out the scary stories.
I’ve got all sorts of shivery favorites. Which I’ll review next week! But even though I’m not usually a movie person, Halloween has all sorts of delightful treats to watch.
In previous years, my usual Halloween flicks include The Glum Pumpkin…
Hocus Pocus...
And The Addams Family.
But Sunday, for my sister’s birthday, I discovered a new favorite.
Hotel Transylvania is cute and fun without being overly cheesy. The story features around Dracula, who runs a hotel for monsters that’s “safe” from humans. Dracula throws a birthday party for his daughter every year, who is determined to go see the ‘real world with the terrible, dangerous humans’ on her 118th birthday.
After setting up a stunt village that terrifies his daughter into never leaving the hotel, a human winds up stumbling inside.
While it’s not as good as the Glum Pumpkin (no movie ever is), it was a delightful tale. Even if you’re not eternally 12 like I am or actually 12 and under, you’ll enjoy it.
Just make sure you eat it with candy corn for the perfect Halloween treat.
Stay tuned next week, Invisible Friends– we’ll have a scary story review! But tomorrow we’ll have a new short story and Thursday, a delectable fall cake recipe! Stay tuned!

I REALLY wanted to take my son to see that, but was afraid he would be too scarfed. I showed him the trailer, wanting him to decide for himself and he was scared of the monsters. Oh well, maybe when it comes out on Cable.

I don’t do scary, or candy corn, but I love pumpkins a “happy” witch tale (think Charmed, Harry Potter?), etc. I suck at the costume thing too.

Hotel Transylvania sounds like my kind of film, cute and not unduly scary.

I LOVE Hocus Pocus! I’ve watched it at least 50 times. And Practical Magic is always good too. I’ve seen that one 100 times.

I love Hocus Pocus! Wish you lived closer so we could have a scary movie + baking night! =) Glad to know that Hotel Transylvania is good, too – I’ll add it to my Netflix queue!

Too fun. I’m admittedly a sucker for Double, Double Toil and Trouble and Hocus Pocus — to be watched with massive amounts of candy, of course.
