When I wear blue,
With a boatneck and flared skirt that twirls,
Elegantly arriving on your arm,
Climbing the steps in tiny kitten heels,
I am royal and true.
When I wear green,
I feel feisty,
And a little bit ornery.
Harassing my sister at gown fittings and scampering about,
Posing for pictures with my arms flung out.
When I wear pink,
I feel pretty and perky,
Twirling and doing jetes across the living room floor,
With perfectly-behaving curls that don’t frizz and tangle,
Ready for a grand adventure,
Or at least something tasty with a sprinkle or two,
That’s what pink makes me do.
But when I wear blue,
It seems to soothe,
A squirmy puppy,
Into resting quietly in my arms,
His tiny sighs ruffling across my skin,
His warm belly pressing into mine,
All the while giving me gentle sloppy kisses,
Before gently giving into sleep,
And nestling into ocean folds of cotton,
That I wore just for him.
